Santiva and Monzon had 10/1 and 27/1 odds, respectively, to win the Belmont Stakes.

Monzon is the biggest long shot of the 2011 Belmont Stakes with a payout potential of $2700 on every $100 bet.  There is little to suggest this horse has even a remote shot of winning the race.

Santiva is a slightly different story with 10/1 odds.

He surprised many by finishing 6th at the Kentucky Derby and just 51/2 lengths behind the winner, Animal Kingdom.

"He got a lot out of the Derby from a conditioning standpoint," owner Tom Walters said.

“He has done very well since the (Kentucky) Derby.  He has had good workouts. Hopefully we will have a much-improved horse. We are going into the race really well.”

Best of all, Santiva is racing from one of the first five positions.  The Belmont Stakes winner has come from the first five positions in 70 races to date.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
