Take Charge Indy Odds at 12 to 1: Jockey Calvin Borel is 3 of 5 Since 2007
Take Charge Indy odds were sitting at 12 to 1 early in the week with the Kentucky Derby post positions yet to be determined.
Take Charge Indy stunned everybody by winning the prestigious Derby prep race Florida Derby.
"The track was playing really good for us," Trainer Patrick Byrne said. "I told Calvin, 'If you're on the lead and they leave you alone, fine.' "
"He ran good and he finished good," said Julien Leparoux, who rode Union Rags. "We were in traffic and they were riding me. ... It was just bad luck. He is a professional. He doesn't care about being on the rail, in behind, or dirt (in his face). Nobody paid attention to the winner; they let him go. I guess they just target the favorite ...
"You can see on the video, he was the best horse in the race."
Most important of all, Take Charge Indy’s 12-1 odds seem most favorable considering he beat the current Kentucky Derby favorite, Union Rags (who finished 3rd at the Florida Derby).
“Now he's really got everyone's attention because he beat those top-class horses,” JOe Kristufek of HorsePlayerNow.com said. “I guess you could call it his coming out party.”
Gambling911.com has indicated that Take Charge Indy is way underrated by the oddsmakers, not only because of his Florida Derby win, but also because of who will be riding him, the one and only Calvin Borel.
It should be noted that Borel has been on the winning Kentucky Derby horse three times since 2007.
