An online gambling firm, Centric, is in the process of bidding for a Greece license to operate. Centric is the Greek partner of Internet gambling powerhouse Sportingbet, which recently entered into a non-prosecution agreement with the United States over its activities there throughout much of the past decade.
Like in the United States, online gambling is illegal in Greece, however, the $3 billion industry is thriving in the country. A few dozen companies operating legally from other EU nations accept bets from those living in Greece.
Centric anticipates getting a license in that nation.
"Centric, as a partner of Sportingbet for Greek clients, will definitely make a bid," Vassilis Neiadas, Deputy Chairman of the company, said in an interview on Tuesday.
"If a Greek-owned firm listed on the Greek bourse, which declares 760 million euros sales to the state...can't get a licence, then who can?"
