Online Poker Traffic Jumps 3.4 Percent Ahead of Possible Legalization in US

The online poker industry got some great news this past weekend (unless of course you are one of the many opposed to a potential 15 month blackout period for existing Internet card room operators)  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is attempting to ram through legislation that would license such card rooms in the US.

Even more good news this week:  Following a few weeks of slumping traffic, the “real cash” online poker sector saw a 3.4 percent jump.  Whether this has something to do with the onslaught of frigid temperatures across much of the northern half of the planet is anybody’s guess.

The rally was broad, with eight of the top 10 sites and networks seeing week-over-week gains, according to the traffic monitoring website PokerScout.com.

That site claims that Full Tilt Poker’s Rush Poker brand attributed to much of the increase (as opposed to inclement weather we suppose).  Rush Poker rewarded players for participating on the site with a “non-deposit” bonus.  In the past, such promos have indeed boosted traffic.  Ring game player counts jumped 10 percent the first day of the promotion according to PokerScout.

PartyPoker’s “Gladiator” promotion resulted in a 2 percent increase in traffic for the site during the month of November, compared to 7 percent last year.

iPoker continued to hold a lead over PartyPoker for that coveted number 3 spot.

Merge Poker has shown an incredible 123 percent growth over the past 12 months.
