2008 WSOPE Winner: John Juanda
Multiple bracelet winner John Juanda has just walked off with another having become the second person to win the World Series of Poker Europe.
Even after a grueling 22 hour final table, John Juanda could not wipe the smile off his face as he held his fourth WSOP bracelet aloft and posed for the throng of waiting photographers. Cool and implacable, Juanda never lost his focus, went on tilt, or lost his temper on his way to victory tonight.
Stanislav Alekhin, a little known poker player from Russia, has now made a name for himself, coming in second place after a grueling showdown with Juanda.
Juanda admitted in his post-game interview that he found his opponent nearly impossible to read and has great respect for his game. Alekhin is surely a talent to watch on the circuit in the months and years to come.
The Indonesian born player, who now resides in the United States, had $7,100,000 in total career total winnings to date prior to Friday‘s big WSOPE victory that netted him another $2.1 million.
He was the 2002 tournament Champion of the Year, winning three World Series of Poker titles, and a World Poker Open Championship title. In November 2004 he won the inaugural Professional Poker Tour event at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.
In November 2005 he earned nearly $500,000 in Monte Carlo, Monaco after winning the Monte Carlo Millions Consolation tournament, finishing sixth in the Monte Carlo Millions Main Event, and finishing second at "The FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational Live from Monte Carlo."
Although Juanda has made 6 World Poker Tour final tables, he has never captured a title.
