Radio Netherlands Worldwide has reported that the attorney for suspected killer Joran van der Sloot, Max Altez, is not confident that his client will be questioned within the statutory period of custody.  That period of time is 18 months in Peru, where van der Sloot is being held at the notorious Castro Castro prison for the murder of college student Stephany Flores back in May of last year.

Van der Sloot’s attorney claims that Peru’s legal authorities failed to provide a Dutch-Spanish interpreter.

The Dutch murder suspect has denied killing Flores after meeting with her in a Lima casino.  Video surveillance shows that Ms. Flores and van der Sloot’s entered his hotel room.  Only van der Sloot came out alive and was picked up in Ecuador a few days later.  Flores was brutally beaten to death.  Van der Sloot initially confessed to the murder but later recanted.

He had been in Lima following the Latin American Poker Tour, although the Dutchman was not scheduled to actually play in the event.  Van der Sloot was a known online poker player.

He was well known prior to the Flores murder as a primary suspect in the disappearance of American Natalee Holloway while she vacationed in Aruba in 2005.
