Dallas Cowboys Odds Crashing Faster Than Stock Market

A loss to the Arizona Cardinals on the road Sunday and now an injury to quarterback Tony Romo - the Dallas Cowboys are in trouble and nowhere is this more evident than the odds being placed on Dallas by online bookmakers.

Once the darling of odds makers to win the 2009 Super Bowl, the Cowboys are struggling to maintain value in winning the NFC Championship where the few online sports books offering odds on Monday had Dallas at +300 or paying $300 for every $100 bet. Sportsbook.com was one such book. Compare that with +180 for the New York Giants and +1000 for the Washington Redskins.

Romo is likely to be out for at least four games due to a broken pinkie finger suffered on the first play of overtime in a 30-24 loss at Arizona on Sunday.

"We don't know how long he'll be out ... it depends on how fast that heals," said coach Wade Phillips, who says there won't be any surgery. "I'd say week to week, depending on quickly he heals. Different people heal differently."

On a positive note, Dallas takes on the lowly St. Louis Rams. Unfortunately, those same Rams managed to upset the surging Washington Redskins on the road in the final seconds of their Sunday afternoon showdown.

Romo's injury leaves the Cowboys (4-2) with 40-year-old Brad Johnson as the starter for Sunday's game at St. Louis. Johnson, who won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay, hasn't started a game since 2006 in Minnesota.

Sports bettors see more opportunity now that the Cowboys are not looking so invincible these days. Up and coming teams like the Cardinals would pay $1000 for every $100 bet to win the NFC Championship. The Chicago Bears pay $1500, New Orleans (which is slated to get a few of their injured players back next week) pays $1500, Tampa Bay also pays $1500.

Here is a look at the updated odds to win the 2009 NFC Championship courtesy of Sportsbook.com
