Uncle Mo, the early favorite to win the 2011 Kentucky Derby, has been scratched from Saturday’s race due to an ongoing stomach infection.

Owner Mike Repole announced the decision to scratch the colt Friday morning, about 40 minutes before Derby wagering opened. Uncle Mo was the 9-2 second choice on the morning line.

Uncle Mo was at one point close to an even favorite.  By late Thursday night, he was listed with 7/1 odds at BetED.com.   A prior bet on Uncle Mo would constitute “no action”.

“It shows how tough our business is and how unfortunate it is, too,” said Dialed In trainer Nick Zito, superstitiously knocking on a wood sign on his barn. “We all would have liked to see him run. It’s devastating.”

Dialed In was still listed at +350 odds at BetED.com heading into Noon ET Friday.  These odds will be slashed.
