The Heat were a -7.5 point favorite hosting Boston Wednesday night. Miami beat that spread with a 97-87 home win over the Celtics.
Dwyane Wade had 34 points and Lebron James added 33 to seal the victory.
At the end of the game, photographers surrounded James.
"Everything went through my mind at that point," James said. "Finally getting over this hump against this team. Everything I went through this summer, with 'The Decision' and deciding to come down here to be a part of this team ... because I knew how important team is to this sport ... and all the backlash I got from it.
"I'd be up here for two hours if I tell you exactly everything that went through my head. Very emotional at that point, you know, and happy we got through it as a team."
In the regular season, the Heat were 2nd in the league in 4th quarter opponent field goal percentage (41.2 percent), behind only the Chicago Bulls (41.1 percent). They turned up the defense again on Wednesday, turning a 2-point deficit entering the 4th quarter into a 10-point win.
Elsewhere Wednesday night, Oklahoma City was a -6 point favorite against Memphis.
