Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy made frequent phone calls to a second referee during the same period of time in which he provided inside information to professional gamblers.

Fox News reported the story on Monday, after it obtained court documents and phone records. They showed Donaghy made 134 calls to fellow referee Scott Foster between October 2006 and April 2007 -- the same span of time he admitted to betting on games or providing inside information to gamblers. The number of calls surpassed the 126 calls he made to his bookie, the report said.

The report said the calls were short in length -- no more than two minutes -- and the vast majority of them were placed in the hours before and after games officiated by Donaghy and Foster. It also said Donaghy and Foster did not referee together for even one game during the 2006-07 season.

The 41-year-old Donaghy is due to be sentenced later this month, after pleading guilty in the federal case.
