The latest odds for Mucho Macho Man to win the 2011 Preakness Stakes have been set at 4/1 or +400 at Bookmaker.com.   Mucho Macho Man finished third at the Kentucky Derby.  Kathy Ritvo is the trainer.

Marcus Hersh of the Daily Racing Form had this to say about Mucho Macho Man:

The signs of late-stretch life he showed at Churchill feel like a positive sign going forward, and his race pattern suggests to me a horse who is not all that likely to regress on a short turnaround.

Finally, he is a very late foal who still has not reached the third anniversary of his birth. He’s long and tall and may be a horse who continues improving through the summer.

“All the stuff surrounding this horse is bizarre and awesome and inspirational,” said Carole Rio, who bred and broke the colt at Rose Grove Farm.

Most remarkable of all perhaps is that Mucho Macho Man appeared to be dead at birth.

“He was lifeless, not breathing,” Rio said. “I rubbed his body. All of a sudden, he just popped up and ran. We were all gasping.”

Trainer Ritvo almost didn’t make it to see this day either.  She survived a heart transplant some years ago.
