7 individuals in Greece have been charged with breaking gambling laws by betting on matches they knew were fixed.

This is an emerging scandal that promises to rock the nation.

Eight other individuals are under investigation after allegedly making more than $22,000 each from state-controlled soccer pools, according to judicial officials Monday.

The investigation has been ongoing since 2009 following a review of unusual betting patterns related to soccer matches.

FA chief Sofoklis Pilavios said on Friday that Greek soccer had fallen into the "hands of hooligans, violence, and match-fixers."

Greece'sFootball Association has moved to suspend the country's professional game over the claims of match fixing.
