Shackleford odds of winning the Belmont Stakes were listed at 6/1 at BetDSI.com.  While Shackleford may have won the Preakness, this is a much longer track than either the Preakness or the Kentucky Derby for that matter.

Shackleford led the way at the Derby throughout 90 percent of that race before sputtering out.

At the Preakness, a few seconds more and he likely would have lost to Animal Kingdom.

This is not a distance horse, and the oddsmakers know this.

Even worse, he will be racing from a position that has only won the Belmont Stakes once in over a hundred years.

There is one ray of sunshine for Shackleford.  Actually, it’s all about the potential for rain.  A muddy track favors this horse over just about all others in the field and we are looking at a 60 percent chance of inclement weather.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
