World Series of Poker Champ Jonathan Duhamel Hospitalized After Home Invasion

The 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event winner, Jonathan Duhamel, was released from a hospital after being attacked during a home invasion Wednesday.

The crime occurred at his home outside Montreal in the Boucherville borough, which is known to have a relatively low crime rate.

Duhamel’s agent confirmed that two men had forced their way into his client’s home after first ringing the doorbell.

Duhamel’s injuries were said to be minor and it was not immediately clear what, if anything, the robbers were able to escape with.

“Let’s say that getting out of bed will be particularly hard tomorrow and that his Christmas photos won’t be the prettiest,” the pro’s agent, Philippe Jette, said.

“But Jonathan got out without serious injuries.”

Detectives are trying to determine if Duhamel, who won US$8.9 million last year, was targeted by the robbers.

Police released a description of one of the suspects but little further details were known at the time of this writing Thursday December 22, 2011.

"The investigation is still ongoing," said police spokesman Mark David.

Both attackers were described as white men. One of them is five-foot-eight and weights 180 pounds.  More details were said to be forthcoming Thursday afternoon.
