New Jersey Internet Gambling by September Despite Thursday Hiccup

New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak promised that his measure to legalize Internet gambling would sail through the state legislature this past Thursday.  That didn’t happen.  But it was more a technical snafu than any type of opposition blocking the bill’s passage.

Lesniak remains optimistic about Internet gambling becoming a reality in the Garden State by September.  He’s not even second guessing the possibility.

"We're going to have to work harder and faster to get the regulations and licenses issued, that's all," Lesniak said Thursday in a phone interview with Poker News. "We'll still have it done by September. That can still be reached for sure. I was being conservative in saying it would be done by September."

The State Senator explained away Thursday’s holdup, citing unfinished technical amendments from Governor Chris Christie’s office on issues related to licensing procedure.

Christie has already said he would sign the bill into law while it was determined earlier in the week that the measure did not require a voter referendum that would have resulted in further delay until November.
