Wagerweb.com oddsmakers have vowed to keep Union Rags as the odds-on favorite to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby even after an upset loss this weekend at the highly touted Florida Derby.

Move over War Horse.  You might own the spotlight at the box office, seem like a winner in the eyes of film critics, and be the talk of Broadway, but there are dozens of thoroughbreds that have much better ideas and they aren’t interested in horsing around.  I’m not even referring to the now inappropriately titled cable drama Luck, which saw its cancellation after too many equine casualties out of the gate.  It’s the Kentucky Derby that’s on everyone’s minds and it’s just around the corner.  Although it isn’t entirely any horse’s race, you can’t forget that favoritism is often fleeting on the track.  The Derby is also the most sought after betting event in terms of overall traffic coming to the Gambling911.com website after the Super Bowl.

While the country’s leading sports journalist pen pieces about which young thoroughbred will win the bulk of the two million dollar purse and the top $1.4 million prize, you can research and make your own predictions at wagerweb.com.

The 2012 Kentucky Derby takes place at Churchill Downs on May 5th.  While Union Rags has long been considered the favorite, the odds are never static.  That’s what happens when you deal with precocious three year olds.  Hansen, Creative Cause, El Padrino, Secret Circle, Alpha, Gemologist, Prospective, and Bodemeister are all respectable at press time, but it is arguably too soon to tell how strong the field is going to be.

There’s no need to wait impatiently if you are all about the winner’s circle.  There are definitely tons of great races across the nation and wagerweb.com always has a full calendar all season long.
