One of the individuals caught up in a massive online poker probe last April was scheduled to be sentenced today (April 19, 2012) after pleading guilty to money laundering and bank fraud.

Brent Beckley was an executive and co-founder of the now shuttered online poker firm, Absolute Poker.

In the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Beckley, 31, admitted that he knowingly broke the law after Absolute Poker arranged for banks in the United States to facilitate gambling funds, many of which were disguised as other unrelated transactions.  Such actions violated the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act that went into effect in October 2006.

"I knew that it was illegal to deceive the banks," Beckley told Magistrate Judge Ronald Ellis.

Beckley was originally expected to serve up to 18 months behind bars.
