BetOnline had one of the best prices on Daddy Nose Best coming into the Derby pre-post position draw.

He is owned by Cathy Zollars and Robert Zollars and trained by Steven M. Asmussen.

Daddy Nose Best has won his last two races at El Camino Real Derby and Sundland Derby, both Grade 3 events.   He placed 6th at the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile.

Asmussen has been pleased with Daddy Nose Best’ workouts thus far this week.   He is also the trainer for 35-1 odds long shot Sabercat

“I’m extremely happy with the condition that both of these horses are making the Derby gate in,” Asmussen said. “We’re trying to stay in a rhythm with them, monitoring where we think they are. Obviously, very pleased with training them here at Churchill. They’re familiar with it. Love the position we’re in with these horses as far as their health and the way they’re getting over the racetrack.”

History seems to be against Asmussen-trained horses, however.  His best Derby finish from 10 starters was 2nd place last year with Nehro and a 3rd place finish with Curlin in 2007.

Daddy Knows Best should fare on any track including the Churchill Downs dirt.  While a dedicated closer, Daddy Knows Best will face an uphill battle against some stiff competition.
