The state of Massachusetts is moving right along in its quest to expand legalized gambling, including on the Web.  But a recent hire by the state Gambling Commission has certainly raised some eyebrows.

Carl Stanley McGee was brought on as the new interim Executive Director despite a prior accusation of sexual assault against a 15-year-old Florida boy in 2007.  The allegations were ultimately dropped due to lack of evidence.

Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby said the panel was fully aware of McGee’s past.  They also had no qualms over McGee having worked for Governor Deval Patrick and the potential for a conflict of interest.  The Commission is supposed to be independent.
