As of 9:30 am EST the Kentucky Derby 2012 track conditions were absolute slop, but that is likely to change dramatically over the next couple of hours.   Odds have not fluctuated much overnight at Sportsbook as a result of the weather conditions and it does appear that the public in general was awaiting placing bets to get a better handle on this afternoon’s weather.

ALERT:  The Churchill Downs main track was closed for training on Saturday morning because of heavy rain overnight.  This prohibited an eager Hansen from training this AM.

With the weather expected to be sunny for the next several hours leading into the afternoon, the Churchill Downs main track, which is known for drying quickly, should be much drier by race time, provided there are no additional rain storms.

The early Kentucky Derby 2012 track condition prognosis was still WET-FAST.  Horses that run best in these conditions include three of the big favorites:  Bodemeister, Union Rags and Gemologist.  El Padrino and Went The Day Well are two others.  Gambling911.com advises to think twice before placing a wager on Optimizer and I’ll Have Another, the later of whom comes from a post position that has never won the Derby.

A look at the local radar Saturday morning revealed drying for hundreds of miles north/northwest of the Louisville area with torrential rains of last night now south of the region.

At sunrise Saturday, the front was about 100 miles north of Louisville, along the I-70 corridor thus presenting a chance of scattered storms later in the afternoon.

Temperatures will hover between 85 and 90 degrees this afternoon with high humidity that may produce localized thunderstorms, however, this likelihood is greatly diminished as we head into the late morning hours.
