Paynter remained among the favorites to win this year’s Belmont Stakes with a potential payout of around $40 for every $10 bet at Bookmaker

The Star Ledger of Newark had this to say about Paynter….

…..was the most likely colt to upset I’ll Have Another. He ran a decent fourth to I’ll Have Another in the Santa Anita Derby after going four wide, and it was only the colt’s second career start as trainer Bob Baffert was optimistic enough to enter him in a stakes. The $325,000 purchase was a game second in the Grade 3 Derby Trial in the slop and then used little effort to win an allowance race at Pimlico as the 1-10 choice. Paynter will have an advantage of being able to get to the lead without difficulty, and have jockey Mike Smith slow the pace down. Paynter is by Awesome Again, a superior off-track sire and distance-loving specialist who has passed along his traits to numerous stakes winner. If allowed to have an uncontested lead and perhaps a sloppy track, Paynter could romp by a dozen or more lengths.

Paynter did train well the other day at Belmont after rain caused the track to become sloppy.  “He worked fine,” Assistant Trainer Jimmy Barnes said. “Bob said go in a minute and we went a shade under a minute.” The weather forecast for race time was calling for rain and it remains to be seen how Paynter will perform on a muddy track.  ODDS TO WIN THE BELMONT STAKES
