Treasure Beach was coming in as the 6/5 favorite for this Saturday’s race, however, Point of Entry was near favorite status at 9/5 while Newsdad also had short odds at 3/1 as did Hudson Steele at 4/1.
Treasure Beach is the Irish Classic winner that has just endured a trip between Ireland, Hong Kong and the United States to take part in this all-important Belmont race.
“We got delayed on the way to Hong Kong and that might have upset his routine a bit,” Assistant Trainer TJ Comerford said. “He didn’t have a great run in Hong Kong, but still at the same time the horse that finished just beside him [Chinchon] came out and won [a Group 1] at Singapore the next time. So it might not have been a bad run after all, and he was drawn very wide in Hong Kong, so it was very hard to have everything right for him on the day.”
The winner of the Man oWar Stakes typically takes part in the Breeders Cup Turf.
