The producer of “Dances With Wolves” and “The Bodguard”, Jim Wilson, is set to begin production on a film about 2009 Kentucky Derby winner, Mine That Bird.  He entered that race as one of the biggest long shots.

The film will be titled “50 to 1” in reference to the New Mexico gelding’s long odds coming into the big race that year.

Mine That Bird, while failing to capture the Triple Crown, went on to finish in second place at The Preakness Stakes and third place at the Belmont Stakes.

Production on the independent film will begin in September and run for approximately eight weeks.
Locations  for shooting include Las Cruces, Sunland Park, Edgewood, Albuquerque, Bernalillo, and Santa Fe, all in Mine That Bird’s birthplace of New Mexico.
