Odds to win the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile 2012 were available at WagerWeb.com, which was offering up to 13 percent weekly rebates (losses back).  Available for betting in most jurisdictions.  Established 1995.

Shackleford was the odds-on favorite to win the Breeders Cup Dirt Mil with EVEN odds while Emcee was closing in at +150 odds (payout of $15 for every $10 with a win).

After finishing 4th in last year’s Kentucky Derby, Shackleford became the beneficiary of the largest payoff purse in Preakness history upon winning that race.  He not only won the $600,000 winner's purse, but also $550,000 as the XpressBet Bonus winner for a total payout of $1,150,000.

His trainer, Dale Romans, believes Shackleford looks like a winner coming into Saturday’s Dirt Mile.

‘‘He’s definitely our most live horse,’’ Romans said of the winner of the Metropolitan Mile in May and the 2011 Preakness. ‘‘All of our horses are coming into the races doing well, and all have chances. I think he’s the closest to one that should win.”

Shackleford finished 2nd at the Kelso Handicap in Belmont back in September.

The previous race in Saratoga resulted in an 8th place finish.  Romans blames the sloppy track.

‘‘I think the Kelso showed him coming back to himself,’’ Romans said. ‘‘He ran on a sloppy track that day. It was more wet than people thought it was. He came back coated in mud. He showed himself, he showed his fight to hang on for second. It makes me think he’s back to his best.”
