Poker Pro Marcus Bebb-Jones Pleads Guilty to Murder of Wife
UK poker pro Marcus Bebb-Jones has plead guilty of murdering his wife in 1997, thus avoiding a trial that was set to begin April 1. He admitted to dumping her body in a Colorado national park. Her skull was discovered in Douglass Pass in 2004. The body has never been found.
The poker pro had previously denied killing his Vietnamese-American wife Sabrina Bebb-Jones. He would eventually be arrested in 2009.
The 49-year-old entered his plea on Friday and is due to be sentenced on 1 May.
Speaking to the BBC on Tuesday, the district attorney in Garfield County, Sheri Caloia said: "We are happy we can get on with sentencing now.
"Since the skull was discovered it's taken three and a half years to bring [the case] to fruition."
Marcus Bebb-Jones will be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years behind bars. He avoided a life sentence by pleading to second degree murder.
The defendant blamed the murder on “heat of passion” and took off on a “Vegas Playboy Weekend” immediately afterwards, using his dead wife’s credit cards.
He shot himself in the head shortly thereafter in a failed suicide attempt.
