FBI Jobs

If you can't beat ‘em, why not join ‘em?  The FBI recently posted some 3000 job openings this week, the most since 9/11.

The agency is looking for 850 special agents and more than 2,100 professional support workers.

An FBI spokesperson claims that most of the new job postings come as a result of attrition and retirement.

Assistant Director John Raucci of the FBI's Human Resources division says he goal is to "bring more people on board with skills in critical areas, especially language fluency and computer science," said Raucci. "But, we're also looking for professionals in a wide variety of fields who have a deep desire to help protect our nation from terrorists, spies, and others who wish us harm."

One of the more interesting expertise being sought is someone knowledgeable in automotive mechanics.

The FBI in recent years has had its hands full going after evil Internet gambling operators, terrorists and Wall Street scammers...not to mention a few corrupt politicians here and there.

Moral to the story:  Increased crime equals increase in jobs.

Well, that might not be so moral but the good news is the FBI by creating these new jobs is doing its part to help fuel the economy.

As of September 30, 2008, the FBI had a total of 31,244 employees. That includes 12,851 special agents and 18,393 support staff, such as FBI police officers, intelligence analysts, language specialists, scientists, information technology specialists, and other professionals.

Don't think for a minute you can just walk in and be hired on the spot as an agent.  In addition to a 4 year college degree, candidates spend approximately 21 weeks at the FBI Academy in a facility located on Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.
