Palace Malice odds to win the 2013 Kentucky Derby were coming in at 30/1 but you might want to lock this price in now as it is likely to be slashed further by post time.

With a sloppy track widely anticipated, Palace Malice is more than capable of running in the slop.   Couple that with him finishing strong in both the recent Blue Grass and Risen Star, we have ourselves a real live long shot here.

Steve Haskins of Bloodhorse.com writes:

More and more people seem to be latching on to him as a live longshot, and rightly so. His half-mile work in company with Overanalyze was strong. The only reason to be a bit skeptical is blinkers on. Although he probably needs them and should benefit from them, a change of equipment for the Derby is not what you want to see.

This is a Todd Pletcher trained horse, which always adds some value to the betting line.

In the end though, Palace Malice has yet to win a major race.  The two he had a serious shot at finishing first, Palace Malice simply could not close the deal.  Maybe Saturday’s rainy forecast will push this Kentucky Derby contender over the edge.
