2013 Kentucky Derby Contenders

There are a handful of 2013 Kentucky Derby contenders that have really caught our eye for one reason or another.

Of course there are the co-favorites, Orb and Verrazano, both sitting around 4/1 odds at SportsBettingOnline, and both more than capable.

Revolutionary had double the payout odds and will be ridden by fearless Calvin Borel, most likely on a muddy track.  Talk of Revolutionary has reduced the odds down to around 6/1 but the value is still there so lock in this price now before it is too late.

Goldencents is another horse that can run in the muck.

Dennis O’Neill said Goldencents trained on an off track at Santa Anita and appeared to skip over the surface without any difficulty, according to the San Diego Tribune.

“Just the way he’s built, and his breeding and everything, I just think he’s going to love the mud,” Dennis O’Neill said.

There are also a number of comparisons being made to last year’s winner I’ll Have Another, so Goldencents certainly stands out as a big 2013 Kentucky Derby contender, especially at 7/1 odds, a price that hadn’t changed for much of Friday afternoon.

Mylute is the horse experts believe will have little trouble running on a muddy track.  At 17/1 odds, there is value even though his resume is a bit lacking.

Itsmyluckyday has become one of the more noteworthy Kentucky Derby contenders of late though his odds at SportsBettingOnline remained firm Friday evening at 14/1.

Normandy Invasion is getting the most public backing at around 8 percent with odds now at 9/1, down from 10/1.

“Normandy Invasion might not do a whole lotta running early, but he'll be picking them up and putting them down as fast as any horse in the field at the end of Saturday's Kentucky Derby,” predicts Matt Gardner of SBNation.com
