5000 Plus Complaints Lodged Against Paddy Power Pistorius Bet Ad

As Gambling911.com reported yesterday, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power was forced to remove an ad promoting wagering on the Oscar Pistorius murder trial following some 5000 complaints filed with the Advertising Standards Authority.

The ASA ordered the bookmaker to remove the offensive newspaper advert, which offered a "money back" guarantee on bets if the paraplegic South African runner is acquitted for the murder of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.  Pistorius claimed he shot Steenkamp accidently through a bathroom door, mistaking her for an intruder.

A petition was also begun on Change.org demanding that Paddy stop taking bets on the murder trial and to donate any profits so far to a women’s charity dedicated to preventing domestic abuse.

“Paddy Power are putting all survivors and the families of those who died through even more pain and anguish and they must stop,” the petition claims.

Approximately 150,000 signatures have been provided thus far.

Day 4 of the Pistorius murder trial took place in South Africa on Thursday.
