California Chrome Odds to Win the 2014 Kentucky Derby
California Chrome odds to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby were at just around 3/1 prior to the post position draw. This was the early favorite to win Saturday’s big race. Odds were courtesy of Sportsbook.com where you can get up to 8% in weekly rebates.
Races run by California Chrome include the California Cup, San Felipe and Santa Anita Derby. California Chrome has won all four races he competed in dating back to the end of December.
The Santa Anita Derby is the single most important West Coast stepping stone to the Kentucky Derby.
This year’s Derby favorite is trained by Art Sherman, and this is his first “rock star”.
"I think people are looking for someone new,” Sherman said. “Guys like (Bob) Baffert and (Todd) Pletcher can have three or four horses in these kinds of races, but here's a small operation. It's the owners' first foal by a $2,500 stud fee stallion out of an $8,000 mare. It's kind of like a David and Goliath story and people like that."
In a typical year, a Baffert or Pletcher trained horse will be the Kentucky Derby favorite.
At the time of publication we did not yet have California Chrome’s post position.
