What Are the Odds of Bayern Winning the Preakness Stakes?
The odds of Bayern winning the 2014 Preakness Stakes was set at 16/1 compared to 10/1 earlier in the week at SportsBettingOnline.com (offering betting on the Preakness Stakes throughout the day Saturday).
Bob Baffert-trained Bayern is the speed horse at this year’s Preakness, however, there are no real victories of note. His most impressive performance was a 2nd place showing at the Derby Trial. Though he crossed the line first, Bayern was made 2nd due to a disqualification.
While Bayern is looking hot in practice runs of late, many doubt his ability to compete the distance of the Preakness Stakes.
This will be Bayern’s only appearance in the Triple Crown.
“Bayern isn’t a Belmont-type of a horse, so if we’re going to run in a Triple Crown race, this is it.,” Baffert said. “Does he have distance limitations, or will he go on? That’s what we’re going to find out in the Preakness. We’re taking a shot.”
Baffert is seeking his sixth Preakness Stakes win Saturday. He'll also be looking to make history by having Rosie Napravnik ride Bayern and hopefully become the first female jockey to win this race.
"I've had a lot of success with her, but I've put her on a lot of live horses," Baffert said. "She helps me out at Churchill. She's got the right attitude. She knows that I could bring somebody in from California to ride a horse at any time, and she has no problem with that. When she breezes my horses she knows what I want, what I expect. She works really well with us."
