Anxious to get into the online poker market, California representatives will take part in a state poker summit to be scheduled some time in Mid May.  The website is expected to debut in the next few weeks.

The event is an exclusive affair with only a handful of attendees.

Among those invited to attend - The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association founder Joe Brennan, Jr., whose trade organization is credited for stopping the Kentucky commonwealth from seizing some 140 online gambling domain names.  Legislators will also welcome the heads of top publicly traded online gambling firms.  Both 888.com and Cryptologic have been mentioned as groups that would be asked to present their online poker software to California political interests.

"They will want an established software company," a source familiar with the event told Gambling911.com Monday.

California is hurting from a massive budget deficit and desperate to bring new business to the state.  Online poker is part of an industry that takes in billions of dollars annually.

Stiff opposition to any bill proposing the legalization of online poker is expected from the state's Indian casinos.

The Summit would be held in Sacramento, California.
