Will There Be a Triple Crown Winner in 2015? What Are the Odds?
Perhaps the second biggest wager made heading into any Kentucky Derby outside of the winning horse is Will There Be a Triple Crown Winner?
In order for there to be a Triple Crown winner, a horse must win all three races over the course of a few weeks period: The Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. Last year it appeared as if we could have a Triple Crown winner with California Chrome but it just was not meant to be.
There has not been a Triple Crown winner since 1978 when Affirmed took that honor. It’s interesting to note that the 1970’s offered up three Triple Crown winners including Secretariat and Seattle Slew.
So what are the odds of there being a Triple Crown winner this year?
Our friends at AceSportsbook.com have the odds set at 7.5/1 or +750 for a potential payout of $750 on every $100 bet.
The NO requires a $100 bet to win $10 (you get your $100 back if there is not a Triple Crown winner). Considering how long we’ve gone without one, those are not bad odds.
There are also odds on individual horses winning the Triple Crown that have the potential to pay even more.
