The Keystone state is one step closer to passing a measure that would make online gambling legal within its borders.

The Pennsylvania House Gaming Oversight Committee backed a measure that would require land-based casinos in the state to license Web casinos.

In an 18-8 vote, representatives elected to advance the proposition to its chamber’s floor for further discussion and additional voting.

The measure is authored by the Oversight Committee Chairman State Rep. John Payne (R-District 106)

To date, only New Jersey has benefitted from legalized intrastate Web gambling led by companies like Resorts, Atlantic City’s oldest established casino.  It is one of three states that allows the activity.  Both Nevada and Delaware have passed laws permitting Internet gambling, though neither have enjoyed much success.
