The United Kingdom's second largest bookmaking operation is reporting a 50 per cent rise in revenue from its online gambling arm over the past year.  These figures come as the company recorded an overall 6.5 per cent rise in revenue for the first quarter of 2009.

"Although the economic and competitive environment remains challenging, our results show continuing resilience," stated William Hill Chief Executive, Ralph Topping.  "Integration of our online business is progressing, with an encouraging increase in the number of customer accounts.

A favorable horse racing result at the Grand National also contributed to the positive results during the first quarter.

A number of cancelled horse racing events earlier in the year did have some negative impact on the business, however.

A company spokesperson told Gambling911.com that William Hill is in the process of moving approximately 90 employees from its online division from Leeds, England to Gibraltar.
