West Side Bernie is becoming a public favorite but he has long odds of winning the 2009 Kentucky Derby.  A $100 bet would yield $3000 at betED.com

West Side Bernie was voted the most likely horse to win by the readers of BloodHorse.com.

That website reports that George and Lori Hall's West Side Bernie got a tour of Churchill Downs' main track April 25, and drilled a half-mile in an easy :48 1/5

West Side Bernie's official splits were :12 1/5, :24, and :36 1/5. He galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.

West Side Bernie was bred in Kentucky by Polo Green Stable and Andrew Savas.

Newsday's Ed McNamara:

"Winless but always in the money in three starts on dirt, and his second to I Want Revenge in the Wood was encouraging. He'll be a huge price, so if you think the Wood signaled a blossoming horse, consider him underneath in exotics."
