Chinese authorities have detained 18 Crown Resorts on suspicion of gambling offenses.  Each is facing up to 16 months prison time, it was revealed on Tuesday. But this matter is likely to cause friction between the Australian and Chinese governments, made worse by another discovery.

From the Financial Review:

It has also emerged Chinese authorities have most likely gained access to an internal Crown database containing detailed records of the casino's biggest-spending Chinese clients.

The database, accessible on staff laptops seized by Chinese police, is known to contain the names of high rollers, their approved credit limits, any debt they owe and how many trips they have made to Australia in recent years.

"The big winner out of all this will be Macau. They [high rollers] are not going to Australia now," said one gaming industry source told the Financial Review.

Meanwhile, Crown’s share price plummeted on Monday and only regained 1.7 cents by close on Tuesday.
