Bookie Bombs With Emoji Tweet Promo Following Dortmund Bus Attack
Irish bookmaker Boyle Sports is facing much heat Wednesday following a tasteless set of emojis sent out via Twitter immediately following explosions near the Dortmund bus.
The Dortmund football club was on its way to their Champions League quarter-final game against Monaco when the explosions occurred.
Minutes later BoyleSports tweeted:
“PRICE BOMB Borussia Dortmund (v Monaco) & Juventus (v Barcelona) both to score in the 1st half DOUBLED to 3/1.”
They included the bomb emojis with that tweet.
There were injuries reported including defender Marc Barta, who was hit by flying fragments of glass. The explosive device was later to have been determined to contain pieces of metal.
An “Islamist” suspect was being held as of Wednesday evening though no motive has yet to be given.
Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday said the attack was "an appalling crime" and praised the fans of both Dortmund and their Champions League opponents, Monaco, for coming together.
Their game against Monaco was being played as this went to press.
