New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has urged US President Donald Trump not to ban online gambling following a push by some in Congress to push through legislation originally spearheaded by casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson that would do just that.

Under Christie’s administration, New Jersey became the first US state to legalize Web gambling and, to date, the sector has mostly prospered.

“Gov. Christie has a twofold reason: to help save Atlantic City, and to rejuvenate Atlantic City under his watch, and second of all, to bring tax revenues in,” says Rutgers Newark economics professor Arthur Guarino.”

“Let’s say in Nevada they are worried about the competition they might be getting in New Jersey, so they want to either stop online gambling or minimize it,” Guarino says.
