Gambling911’s Tom Somach to be Guest on Wayne Root’s Radio Show Friday

Gambling 911 reporter Tom Somach will be a guest Friday on handicapper/author/politician Wayne Root's syndicated daily radio program, "The Wayne Allyn Root Show," to discuss the upcoming sports betting case that will soon be heard before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The show airs from Las Vegas from 3-6 p.m. Pacific Time on Vegas radio station KBET and is syndicated on other radio stations throughout the U.S.

The show can also be heard live online (or later via archive here).

Somach will appear on the show Friday at 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time (7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, 6:30 p.m.Central Time and 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time).

Listeners can call the show toll-free at 1-844-WAR-NOW1, which is 1-844-927-6691, to appear on the show and make a comment or ask a question.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced earlier this year that among the cases it will hear during its next session, which begins next month, will be the effort by the State of New Jersey to legalize sports betting and offer it at state casinos and racetracks.

In 1992, Congress, behind the efforts of pro basketball player-turned-senator Bill Bradley, passed a law banning sports betting in any state that didn't already have it.

That meant Delaware, Montana and Oregon, which had legal parlay betting on sports, and Nevada, which had legal parlay betting and single-wager betting, could continue to offer those things, but the other 46 states would never be allowed to do so.

When New Jersey tried to implement legal sports betting a few years ago in an effort to prop up its failing casino industry, professional sports leagues and the NCAA sued to stop it and a court ruled in favor of the leagues and the Federal ban.

Later a Federal Appeals Court upheld the ruling.

Now the case has been appealed to the country's highest court, the U.S. Supreme Court.

If the Supreme Court rules in New Jersey's favor, it would open the floodgates for any other state in the country that wants to offer legal sports betting and would likely lead to nationwide or nearly nationwide legal sports betting.

Somach and Root will discuss the legal, economic and political ramifications of the case.

Somach has covered the gambling industry for more than 20 years and in addition to Gambling 911 has written for the Las Vegas Sporting News, the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Examiner and the Edmonton Sun.

In addition to KBET in Las Vegas, Nevada, Wayne Root's show can be heard on KIBL, KCAF, KVWG, KUFA, KIBQ, KBQQ AND KWYE, all in San Antonio, Texas; KFMR and KELY, both in Salt Lake City, Utah; WACE in Springfield, Massachusetts; K229CL and KIVA, both in Albuquerque, New Mexico; W238CN, KPKK and WZXI, all in Lexington, Kentucky; KRCK in Palm Springs, California and KPKK in Amargosa Valley, Nevada.
