Sports betting for the FanDuel branded sports book raked in over $1 million its first weekend at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Meadowlands Chairman Jeff Gural seemed satisfied with the turnout as he reflected on his expectations with NJTV.

“Our goal was to do over $1 million for the weekend,” he said. “I know we were at $560,000 on Saturday and before I went to sleep last night we were at $465,000 or something for Sunday, so I was very pleased.”

The handle was approximately a half million per day (Saturday and Sunday).

The Meadowlands is a half hour outside a good chunk of New York City and is home to both the Giants and Jets NFL franchises.

Other sports books opened in the state prior to the Meadowlands after the US Supreme abolished a decades long ban on sports betting.   New Jersey had brought the suit before the Court and is among the first to reap the rewards.

Sports betting at the Monmouth Park racetrack in Oceanport, N.J., took in a daily average of $480,954 in bets, or $8.176 million, during the 17 days in June it was open, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Mississippi and Delaware have already approved sports wagering in their respective states.  West Virginia will soon follow suit.
