FanDuel may dominate the sports betting scene in the Meadowlands during NFL Sundays when the place is packed, but it is their biggest competitor that will make it into the homes of all New Jersey residents looking to place a bet.

Until recently, those living in New Jersey only had access to internationally-licensed online sports betting sites.  That all changed Wednesday after DraftKings introduced its new sports betting app.

DraftKings Sportsbook can be loaded onto one's mobile phone and wagers can be placed directly via the app within the state's borders.

Initially it will only be available by invite-only.  Interested customers can register on the company’s website. There has been some early suggestions that the app will not be compatible with all smartphones.

DraftKings had to partner with a betting firm already based in the Garden State, in this case Atlantic City’s Resorts Casino Hotel, owned by Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment.  The state’s Department of Gaming Enforcement authorized DraftKings’ soft-launch period as one of the final regulatory steps to certification before full-scale launch, DraftKings said.

The app offers different kinds of betting, including live in-game bets, and it will allow players to exit a wager, or “Cash Out,” if they change their minds.  The later is a feature not typically offered by existing online sports betting sites.

Use of the DraftKings app will subject users to tax reporting with activity easily tracked and documented.

West Virginia is the only other state that will be offering mobile wagering within its borders via state-run wagering entities for the time being.
