Senate Bill 316 and House Bill 714 do enjoy bipartisan support.
“We’re going to work together with the Senate and the house to come up with a comprehensive bill,” state representative Dave Greenspan said. “It’s one issue, it’s one policy we’ve got two chambers and we’re going to work collectively and collaboratively to come up with a program that we believe will be in the best interest of the residents of Ohio and help promote our economy as well.”
Indiana
Indiana is not likely to legalize sports betting any time soon.
Even if the legislature passes a bill, it probably wouldn't happen until late April 2019. And then the Indiana Gaming Commission would need time to make regulatory rules. This means that Hoosiers won't even be able to place bets at designated establishments inside the state during March Madness.
Rep. Alan Morrison, R-Terre Haute, has introduced gambling bills that haven't advanced far enough for a vote.
Morrison said he's "very pleased and excited about the decision" and that he thinks legalizing sports gambling in Indiana has a "fairly good" chance of passing next year.
"It'll be incumbent on me to educate members of the House about the benefits of doing this and the ramifications if we don't," Morrison said. "We really need to move forward on it."
