Green Bay Packers 2009 Betting Odds

The Green Bay Packers 2009 betting odds had value, especially when it comes to the NFC North where they were widely listed with around 2/1 odds of winning that division.   The 2009 regular season wins odds total was set at 8 ½ games, with the OVER a favorite of -139 at Sports Interaction.

A new wrench was thrown into the NFC North division, however, with odds pulled Tuesday August 18 briefly with the announcement that Brett Favre will be playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

"This is going to be a super tight division and we anticipate the Vikings becoming a bigger favorite to win than they already were and Green Bay perhaps being given even longer odds, say 3/1," commented Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.

The Packers, who finished 6-10 last season, look to improve on that record primarily as a result of their upgraded defense.   This year the team got rid of most of its defensive coaching staff and the 4-3 scheme.   The defense was widely viewed as porous.

The new defensive coordinator is none other than Dom Capers, who will switch to the 3-4 front.  The defense, which allowed an average of 334.3 yards per game last season and ranked 20th in the league, hopes to get bigger and stronger on the defensive line.  Overall the Green Bay Packers defense ranks a solid B coming into the 2009 season, better than the offense in fact.

On offense, Green Bay must establish a solid running game.  Ryan Grant should play better this season after suffering a hamstring injury, and this will only make quarterback Aaron Rogers better as well.

The Packers did little in free agency and will rely heavily on draft picks.

We can't reiterate enough just how tight a division this is becoming, especially with Minnesota's signing of Brett Favre.

Green Bay Packers 2009 betting odds were available at Sports Interaction.com, which was offering a 15 percent cash bonus on all initial deposits for a limited time only.
