Martine Villeneuve, 27, of Montreal is being held in custody awaiting trial. She is one of four defendants accused in the attempted murder of three men in April 2018. 45-year-old Giuseppe Capobianco was stabbed in the incident but survived.
Originally investigated as a home invasion, authorities quickly turned their attention to the Mob wars that have affected the region in recent years upon learning the property was owned by Hamilton mobster Natale (Nat) Luppino.
His nephew, Cece Luppino, was gunned down in the doorway to his Mountain Brow Boulevard home Jan. 30, 2019. Police say it is possible his death was meant to send a message to family members. Cece, despite his family's organized crime connections, was not known to police prior his slaying.
A resurgence of Mafia violence in Hamilton and surrounding areas came to the forefront after Hamilton Mob boss Pat Musitano was gunned down outside his lawyer's office in April.
Musitano was the presumed boss of the Hamilton crime family originally hailing from Calabria, Italy. Their specialities include gambling, extortion and racketeering.
Just days later another mob associate had been shot at his home. Jason Lalonde, 43, reportedly answered the door and was shot multiple times in an attack detectives are calling targeted and specific. Lalonde was wounded but survived.
“We don’t know what the motive is,” Det. Sgt. Peter Thom told the Hamilton Spectator. “We’re not excluding the fact that it may be related to other ongoing incidents in Hamilton.”
