The Astros were clearly the best team in MLB this season. They finished with the best record in the majors at 107-55 record and they also became the first team to lead the American League with 1,671 strikeouts and the fewest by their own hitters with 1,166.

Their starting rotation is formidable, led by Justin Verlander (21-6, 2.58 ERA, 0.80 WHIP), Gerrit Cole (20-5, 2.50 ERA, 0.89 WHIP), Zack Greinke (8-1, 3.02 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) and Wade Miley (14-6, 3.98 ERA, 1.34 WHIP). Verlander (300 strikeouts) and Cole (326 strikeouts) were the first teammates with at least 300 strikeouts in a season since Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling in 2002 and Greinke and Miley pitched very well, although the latter was just 2-2 with an awful 9.90 ERA and a 2.40 WHIP in his last seven starts.

Houston didn't hit as many home runs as Minnesota (307) or the New York Yankees (306) but they finished third in the majors with 288. Alex Bregman, George Springer, Yuli Gurriel, Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Michael Brantley and Carlos Correa all hit at least 21 home runs and four of them (Bregman, Springer, Gurriel and Altuve) hit at least 31.

Their lineup is very dangerous, Bregman hit .296 with 41 home runs and 112 RBIs and is considered an AL MVP candidate, their leadoff hitter George Springer had 39 home runs and 96 RBIs, Yuli Gurriel and 2017 American League MVP Jose Altuve hit 31 home runs apiece and rookie Yordan Alvarez had 27 home runs and 78 RBIs in just 87 games.

The Astros have been a consistently dominant team since 2017, winning at least 100 games in three straight seasons and this year they have an extremely balanced team.
