Asiatic Boy was at 33/1 odds, a long shot but we've seen how well long shots have done in big races over past years including this one (a la Mine That Bird in the Kentucky Derby). At age three in 2006, Asiatic Boy raced in Argentina where he won a maiden race at Hipodromo de San Isidro plus had two second place finishes. He was purchased by Sheikh Mohammad bin Khalifa al Maktoum and brought to race at Nad Al Sheba racecourse in his new owner's native Dubai. In 2008, Asiatic Boy won January's Al Shindagha Sprint then ran third in the Burj Nahaar in early March. In the March 29 Dubai World Cup, he ran second to winner, Curlin.
Bullsbay was listed with 25/1 odds.
Colonel John 20/1 odds. After not racing since December 2008, he came back on July 31, 2009 to win the $91,970 Wickerr Stakes at one mile over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course at Del Mar Racetrack. Garrett Gomez was in the saddle.
Friesan Fire had 33/1 odds. Owned and raced by Vinery Stables & Fox Hill Farm, Friesan Fire is trained by J. Larry Jones, who trained Eight Belles, the 2008 Kentucky Derby second place finisher. The colt's best result racing as a two year old was a third-place finish in the 2008 Belmont Futurity Stakes. However, after winning three important Graded stakes races including the Louisiana Derby, he became a leading contender for the Kentucky Derby.
Gio Ponti had 12/1 odds and was flirting with single digits heading into Wednesday. Gio Ponti has become known as arguably the best turf horse in America and this will mean a lot in Saturday's Breeders Cup race.
Gladiatorus was listed with 33/1 odds.
Mastercraftsman was coming in with near single digit 2009 Breeders Cup odds at 10/1 for a payout potential of $1000 on every $100 bet. The Irish-bred colt who has won 7 of 11 starts.
Matto Mondo had 33/1 odds.
Mine That Bird was the 2009 Kentucky Derby long shot winner and came in with 20/1 odds to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby. Mine That Bird, the Kentucky Derby winner, has progressed since running sixth in the Goodwood Stakes last month, and completed his preparation for Saturday's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic with a five-furlong work at Santa Anita on Monday morning that had Woolley beaming.
"He really looked smooth," Woolley said.
Musket Man had 2009 Breeders Cup odds set at 25/1.
Papa Clem was a long shot at 50/1 odds.
Quality Road was at 12/1 odds.
Regal Ransom had 16/1 odds.
Richards Kid 2009 Breeders Cup odds were listed at 16/1.
Rip Van Winkle was the favorite at 13/8 odds to win the 2009 Breeders Cup Classic at Sportsbetting.com. Rip Van Winkle is an Irish thoroughbred racehorse. He has won two of England's biggest mile races in 2009; the Sussex Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. He also ran second to the great Sea The Stars in the Eclipse Stakes.
