Breeders Cup betting for 2009 is already proving to be big for the online bookmakers who expect one of the world's biggest races to draw supplemental revenue to a busy College Football and NFL weekend.

"The week in general should be great for the books thanks not only to the Breeders Cup but also the MLB World Series, which was pushed to 6 games," said Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.

Sports Interaction was offering Breeders Cup betting on all the races including the Breeders Cup Classic.

Rip Van Winkle was the favorite at +150 for a potential payout of $150 on every $100 bet.  Zenyatta and Summer Bird were the only other horses in the race that would pay single digit odds with a win.  All other horses would pay $1000 and up.

Kevin Modesti of the Los Angeles Daily News offered some good pointers when betting on the 2009 Breeders Cup:

If confirmed come-from- behinder Zenyatta (5-2) is going to run down Rip Van Winkle (7-2) and Summer Bird (9-2), she might need more tactical help than she did against fellow females. It'll be interesting on the front end, with likely pacesetters Regal Ransom and Girolamo being longshots with common ownership, Quality Road figuring to press them from the outside with Summer Bird tucking in at the rail,

The dynamic is horses' different styles. Some horses like to fight for the early lead, some tend to hang back. A front-runner has the edge when he can dictate a comfortable tempo, but he can be in trouble if other speedsters pressure him into a fast pace. A tortoise is helped if the rabbits tire each other out, but he's compromised if an unmolested speedster keeps cruising.
