Barstool Sports Shut Out of NY Sports Betting Following "Rough Sex" Allegations

Following claims made by Business Insider that Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy allegedly engaged in violent sex with three different women - and videotaped them without their consent - New York regulators have reportedly rejected the Barstool Sportsbook application to operate in the state.

Instead, New York went with the consortium of Bally Bet -BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDue, along with the teams from Caesars -Wynn Interactive, Empire Resorts, PointsBet, and Rush Street Interactive.

Barstools might be the winner in that one however.  Noted gaming attorney I. Nelson Rose revealed that operators may end up paying as much as 71% tax.  That's based on a 65% figure quoted by the Wall Street Journal plus another 6% excise tax imposed.  Even with the 51% number being widely disseminated Monday, that is still right around a crippling 60%.

As for the allegations, one of the women told Business Insider: "It was so rough I felt like I was being raped he video taped me and spit in my mouth and choked me so hard I couldn't breathe.  And it hurt, and I was literally screaming in pain."

Portnoy's attorney says the claims portrayed in the Business Insider report "embody half-truths, are highly misleading, lack appropriate context, and appear to have been provided to you by individuals whose motivations and trustworthiness should at least have been fully vetted."
