There was some early speculation that New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees might be injured as we head into the Super Bowl 2010. Those rumors have since been put to rest. The injury in question regarded his shoulder. But an injury report released Wednesday did not have Drew Brees name on it.
Since opening briefly as the +4 ½ underdog, the New Orleans Saints were now listed at +6 at Sportsbetting.com (see odds and all betting options here) That number has actually gotten a half point longer since the news came out that Brees will most definitely be playing. They listed another 12 players who would have been limited, receiver Robert Meachem (ankle), receiver Lance Moore (ankle), guard Jahri Evans (toe), offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod (thumb), center Jonathan Goodwin (knee), tight end Darnell Dinkins (foot), defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis (knee), linebacker Scott Fujita (knee), linebacker Jonathan Casillas (ankle), cornerback Jabari Greer (hip/groin), safety Usama Young (hip) and safety Pierson Prioleau (quadriceps).
Brees may no longer be a concern, Jeremy Shockey is. Even if he does take part in Super Bowl 2010, he's likely to do so at less than 100 percent.
When he was with the Giants, Shockey missed their Super Bowl because he was recovering from a broken leg. But on his Twitter page the other day, Shockey revealed that he had just returned from a visit at the orthopedic surgeon.
